Tamiya 14144 Honda CB1000F (1/12) – Kit Preview, Specs & Best Upgrades
Share
Tamiya's No.144 in its 1/12 Motorcycle Series is the Honda CB1000F, the modern roadster Honda launched in November 2025. The kit arrived in early 2026, shortly after Tamiya re-released its classic 1/12 CB750F – a natural pairing for anyone who loves Honda's "F" bloodline.
The real bike in brief
The CB1000F borrows its look from the 1979 CB750F/900F – squared-off tail light, single silencer on the right side – but underneath it is a fully modern machine: a 999 cc liquid-cooled inline-four producing 124 PS (91 kW), a 5-inch full-colour TFT dash, Smart Key ignition and a full suite of rider aids.

What stands out in this kit
- Screw-mounted main parts: engine, suspension, exhaust and stands fix to the frame with screws, so each sub-assembly can be painted separately and joined at the end.
- Detailed inline-four: the engine is rendered down to the textured pattern on the coolant hose.
- No seams on the tank and front mudguard: both are moulded as one piece, so there is no join line to fill and sand.
- Plated parts for the silencer, headlight rim and inner fork tubes.
- Vinyl tubing for the brake and clutch lines.
- Two-piece drive chain (left and right halves) with moulded roller detail.
- SE version option: separate headlight cowl and radiator grille let you build the standard bike or the SE (cowl, grille and quick shifter).
- Clear red tail light and an LCD dash made from a decal plus clear cover.
- Synthetic rubber tyres, plus working side and centre stands.
- Pre-cut masking stickers for the brake discs.
Colour schemes and paints
The decal sheet covers three schemes: Wolf Silver Metallic with blue stripe, Wolf Silver Metallic with grey stripe and Graphite Black. The SE version is offered in Wolf Silver Metallic with blue stripe.
Main Tamiya paints called for:
- Silver body: TS-17 Gloss Aluminum (spray) or LP-70 Gloss Aluminum (bottle)
- Graphite Black body: TS-14 Black (spray) or LP-1 Black (bottle)
- Details: TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black, TS-30 Silver Leaf, TS-71 Smoke, X-11 Chrome Silver, X-26 Clear Orange, XF-86 Flat Clear
Build planning tips
- Prime and paint the frame, engine and swingarm as separate sub-assemblies before screwing them together.
- Scrape plating off glue points on chrome parts, or the cement will not grip; mask the plated fork tubes before painting the fork legs.
- Apply the supplied brake disc masks before painting the disc carriers.
- Seal decals with a clear coat matched to the finish you want – gloss for the body, semi-gloss for the engine.

Who is this kit for?
The screw-together layout, the one-piece tank and the absence of a full fairing make it approachable for intermediate builders, while the engine detail and the chain, brake and wiring upgrades above give experienced modellers plenty of room for a showcase build. Built next to Tamiya's 1/12 CB750F (14006), it shows 46 years of Honda design side by side.
FAQ
How big is the finished model?
178 mm long, 73 mm wide and 109 mm high.
Can I build the SE version?
Yes. The kit includes the headlight cowl, radiator grille and quick shifter used on the SE.
Are glue and paint included?
No. You need plastic cement and paints, sold separately.
Is the kit chain good enough?
It is well detailed for a plastic kit, but it is moulded in two halves. A dedicated 3D-printed replacement – Hobby Design HD03-0690, Falcon Scale Models FSM-P014 or Fat Frog DE12113 – shows each separate link and looks far more realistic.
